An Overview of LinkedIn

LinkedIn has over 7 million professionals to network with, many who are at the manager, senior manager, director and vice president levels of organizations.

How to Create a Profile

The most important thing to do is to create a profile of you that is similar to a resume; therefore, it is important to get this set up as soon as possible.

Contact Settings for People with Whom You Want to NetworkAs you will note, below, there are a number of options for you to choose regarding networking. First, you will share with others you are looking for a job. Also indicate other interests you may have such as reconnecting with colleagues (this will help you build a network of alumni or past employer relationships). LinkedIn offers a wonderful search capability that will enable you to locate dozens of past relationships who may be at places of employment you are targeting in your job search.

Contact Settings for People to Network with YouThe “To Be Found” category listings (see above) are equally important as they indicate to other networkers how you are able to help them. We know that with good networking as we offer support we are in a stronger position to, in turn, ask for support.
